Yusheng Shi commented for the Award here. He says it is a tremendous honor for him to receive the Best Presentation Award from Remote Sensing Society of Japan on the work of high-resolution mapping of biomass burning emissions. This study developed a new 1-km high-resolution and multi-year emissions inventory for biomass burning in Southeast Asia during 2001–2010. It provides an overall assessment of the potential effects and the relevant information for formulation of appropriate mitigation measures for developing countries in Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, the results also help policy makers establish guidelines for terrestrial ecosystem management and air pollution control. The following work will be conducted on the contribution of biomass burning emissions to regional global warming and air quality.

The NIES GOSAT-2 Project team congratulates Shi and Matsunaga for receiving such an excellent award!
