The 23th session of the Conference of the Parties, the 13th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, and the second part of the first session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (COP23/CMP13/CMA1-2) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) were held on November 6-17, 2017 in Bonn, Germany, hosted by the secretariat of the UNFCCC, and presided over by Fiji.

Satellite Observation Center, NIES, exhibited and presented the achievements of GOSAT and the latest development status of GOSAT-2, the historical timetable to the development of the GOSAT series was showed to visitors at the Bonn Zone exhibtion booth which was cooperated with the Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC). The simulated outcomes of carbon dioxide and methane concentrations based on the GOSAT L4B product, were available by scanning QR codes at the exhibition booth. Dr. Tsuneo Matsunaga, Director of Satellite Observation Center, introduced "A guidebook on the use of satellite grennhouse gases observation data for verification of greenhouse gases emission inventories" at the side event of Cutting-edge Satellite Monitoring and Scientific Knowledge to Contribute to the Paris Agreement: Focusing on the IPCC Guidlines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, which was held on 7th November at Japan Pavilion. Lots of questions and lively discussion among attendees after the presentation on the guidebook (draft version) unveiled at the end of October were generated.

Summer Open House 2016

The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) invited the public to visit a number of research sites within its Tsukuba Campus on 23 July, 2016. The Satellite Observation Center, newly established in last April, posted the achievements and latest status of GOSAT and GOSAT-2. We displayed the global distributions of carbon dioxide derived from GOSAT data on a Dagik Earth, a three-dimensional digital globe, at the Climate Change Research Hall, and organized a GOSAT Quest for students from elementary and junior high schools. Tours for exploring the observation facilities were also carried out.
