MOE is mainly responsible for application of GOSAT-2 data to environmental policy.

JAXA is mainly responsible for the design, development, test, launch, and operation of GOSAT-2 spacecraft, and the calibration and Level 1 processing of GOSAT-2 data.

NIES is mainly responsible for Level 2 to 4 processing, validation, and distribution of GOSAT-2 data.

Overall Structure of GOSAT-2 Joint Project

The costs for the development, launch, and operation of GOSAT-2 spacecraft and Level 1 processing of GOSAT-2 data are shared by MOE and JAXA.

The costs for Level 2 to 4 processing including the necessary algorithm development, and validation; and distribution of GOSAT-2 data are shared by MOE and NIES.

GOSAT-2 Science Team, consisting of scientists from Japanese universities and research institutes, was organized to support GOSAT-2 Joint Project. Several algorithms for the generation of GOSAT-2 products will be developed by the team members.

Scientists other than those in GOSAT-2 Science Team will be able to join GOSAT-2 Joint Project through GOSAT-2 RA (Research Announcement) opportunities which are to be issued soon.
